4 reviews of Anchor Bankside Pub

A charming atmosphere

For fans of the Anglo-Saxon style, this is the quintessential London pub: with balconies, traditional architecture, slightly dim red lights, and the kind of food you'd expect to find in a pub. It has a charming atmosphere, and in summer you can enjoy the outdoor tables on the banks of the Thames, which are almost romantic! The food is good, with dishes like burgers and fish and chips, and the beer is great quality. The atmosphere is informal and cheerful and also, as the sign says, it's "one of the oldest pubs in London"!

Old pub in Southwark

The Anchor is an old pub in Southwark, on the south bank of the Thames, next to the Clink prison and Vinopolis. I like this part of London's oldest and renovated buildings. The Anchor has long been open, as proof you see some old, yellowed photos on the walls. It's a perfect place for the summer to enjoy the river and eat fish and chips. The food is good, and they try to vary with seasonal products but the beer selection isn't anything special. Dinner and drinks will be about 20 pounds per person.

Colorful pub

An amazing and colorful pub located in the historic heart of London.
