Of cultural interest

The regrouping of the towns of Criptana, Villajos and Posadas Viejas give place to the municipality of Campo de Criptana. Through Campo de Criptana passed many cultures; it was a border town until 1212, after the battle of Navas de Tolosa, when the Christians settled there for good.

Following the Ruta del Quijote we find ourselves in Campo de Criptana with one of the three oldest windmills in Spain: the Sardinero who, along with the windmill of Burleta e Infanto, was included more than 21 years ago as National Patrimony in Spain and of cultural interest.

The most beautiful town

Campo de Criptana, between the blue bases and the sky, blinds you with its whiteness. Of all the towns of La Mancha, where Don Quijote passed by, this is the most beautiful and endearing one. Its houses, small and crammed on a hill, uncover a bunch of solitary mills. I climb the arid hill, I circle them. They no longer move their gigantic blades, but they still inspire respect. Here, after defying them by saying “Don’t run away, cowards” and of entrusting himself to Dulcinea, Don Quijote battled with them.

A famous place in castilla la mancha

The Cerro de los Molinos is one of the most famous places in Castilla la Mancha. It is capable of inspiring Cervantes himself, and today it presents a landscape that stuns the visitor with its majesty. There are several restaurants on the top of the hill, so we could accompany the visit with good food and wine (local one of course).

Moreover, there are different museums available so that the visitor can understand the functioning of these giants, and one dedicated to the most famous citizen of Criptana: Sara Montiel. It is common to encounter Asian tourists in the hill, since the songs of the siren of the piece that stars Alonso Quijano trespasses borders.

In the skin of don quixote

At this singular place of geography leads one to imagine they really are giants whose blades are threatening his arms. It is certainly one of the sights that everyone who wants to know Spain should carry. The simplicity and the contrast of colors make this place one of the enclaves with more magic I have ever met. Each mill has a label under his own name and the people there at his feet has a lot of life. We spent an afternoon there.

Land of giants

When some evenings I feel a bit bored or depressed, I usually go to the saw mill, gives me tranquility and fresh air for me. Feel free to visit the 10 mills that the great Don Quixote of La Mancha mistook for giants. Among them there are various exhibitions, one of Sara Montiel, Criptana Field countrywoman.

Travel by land of don quixote

Strolling among mills, in the heart of Castilla la Mancha, imagining D. Quixote giant believing them is something spectacular. The mills are located on a hill, which can be reached by an easy access road, we went by car and there is a large open area for parking, but the walk through the village should also be very pleased, walking narrow streets with white houses . Some mills can be visited, there is one that is dedicated to Sara Montiel vesstidos with pictures of her and another that preserves the original machinery, and I think some more that was closed when I visited.

See sunset sitting next to one of the mills, all the people watching while dining from one of the most popular restaurants, go out and see it all lit up it is something to be enjoyed compulsorily if you go to this magical place. Criptana field, Land of Giants!

Abajo estaban Don Quijote y Sancho Panza, totalmente autóctonos! Fue divertido!

If you want to enter the history and remember the adventures of Don Quixote, you can not miss this visit to the imposing Mills Field Criptana. When you get to the place it seems that time stops. Clean air, peace and quiet is what you'll find when you visit these mills that are in perfect condition. Back another day with more time to eat in there right at the top next to the mills.

Musa quixote

Wonderful place the saw mill hotels in Toledo. A saw that mixes fantasy dawn to dusk prettiest spot. Landmark for the Japanese community has come to appreciate the continent and the content of what D.Miguel De Cervantes expressed in his famous Don Quixote of La Mancha, muse of the book.

Walk among giants

It's great to travel the countryside between the mills. Feel the wind and tranquility. And back in time imagining the battles of El Quijote. Observe from small hills the wide horizon of La Mancha, the sunny blue sky and yellow and brown colors contrastanto skyline with white and blue houses and mills.

Precious giants

It was a pleasure to discover in field Criptana citing mills Miguel de Cervantes in Don Quixote. There remain vigilant about the people at your feet. Perfectly preserved and documented by interpretation centers located there. You can also enjoy a leisurely stroll through the neighborhood of Albaicin with its white houses and indigo, a visit to the cave-dwelling older millers. It is a jump back in time worth knowing.

Preciosos gigantes
