Ruins of Malavella Castle

Malavella Castle, now in ruins, dates from 1057 and was built in the upper area of the territory next to the village known as Malavella Parc. It has been discovered that the actual ruins were volcanic stones of the area, due to their black colour and geologists estimate them to be of the twelfth century. These stones are basalt that makes up the same hill. There is a legend around the place which says that the Old Mala (Mala Vella)lived here and that is why the town is named so. Each year, the Riera Crown Dance is held every September 22nd.
