Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista

2 reviews of Chiesa di San Giovanni Battista

St. John and St. Michael

The Church of San Giovanni Battista di Modena has been documented since 1190 and was originally dedicated to St. Michael. It was rebuilt between 1723 and 1732, following a design by Girloamo Roberti. Since 1854, it has been home to Guido Mazzoni's Lamentation over the Dead Christ, a work of 1479. The building has a classical facade, with a rather irregular shape and a tower on the right rear side.
