Neoclassical church

This neoclassical church dedicated to St. Pothin. Pothin was the first bishop of Lyon and Gala, was killed by the Romans during the reign of Marcus Aurelius, with other Christian martyrs, such as St. Blandine. They were thrown to the lions. The church is in the oldest district of the Brotteaux, a suburb of Lyon that developed during the industrial revolution. The many factories in the expanding city encouraged the growth of the population and facilitated the construction of this church in 1843. The columns give it the appearance of a Greek temple, and were built by architect CREPET. This is on the "left" bank of the Rhone River, while the old town developed on the other bank.
