Dalieda de san francisco

There aren’t just rose gardens in Madrid. Take some time during your stay to stroll through this exuberant dahlia garden.

The Dahlia Garden of San Francisco is a recently constructed garden that was opened in 2007. It’s located next to the Basílica de San Francisco el Grande, close to the La Latina neighborhood. I happened to discover this garden by chance, after visiting the Basílica de San Francisco. I didn’t even know it existed beforehand.

With an area of 4,000 square meters, you’ll see that the dahlia gardens are really part of a complex landscape surrounding the basilica and that the lower section is known as Cornisa park.
The dahlias are large, bright flowers that begin to blossom at the beginning of the summer and stay in bloom until winter arrives. With this in mind, it’s ideal to visit the Dalieda de San Francisco while the flowers are in full bloom to see their utmost splendor.

At the end of the garden, you’ll see a sculpture dedicated to San Isidro. Next to the sculpture is a lookout point which gives you a great panoramic view of the West of Madrid, with the Ermita and the San Isidro park sticking out.
