The church of San Pietro in Vincoli is located close to the Colosseum and is a fascinating visit for loversof art, painting, and sculpture. Church and tombs

The church of San Pietro in Vincoli was built in the 4th and 5th centuries in honor of the apostles, but restored by Pope Julius II in the 16th century. Technically, it's a Renaissance church but it does hold an early Christian sarcophagus and a Byzantine mosaic.

This church is famous, above all, for two things you can't miss during your trip to Rome: Michelangelo's Moses and the chains of St. Peter. It's a wonderful place to explore since it's never too busy, something of a rarity in Rome. As faithful light their candles and silence fills the room, you feel invited to sit a while and contemplate the equally beautiful and terrifying statue of Moses and descend into the crypt to see the chains.
