Sauvie Island Wildlife Area

1 review of Sauvie Island Wildlife Area

Lush and beautiful area

Sauvie Island is a stretch of land that lies between the confluence of the Willamette and Columbia rivers. This lush and beautiful area is about 30 minutes northwest of Portland. You can't help but feel like you're out in the country when you visit Sauvie Island. The island is mainly farmland and wildlife sanctuary. The wildlife sanctuary is a 12,000 acre area of preserved land with multiple lookout areas and trails. It's home to several hundred species of birds, mammals, reptiles, and amphibians. It's a great area for bird watching, the stars being cranes and bald eagles. Fishing and hiking are also popular activities, as well as cycling on the roads that run by the sanctuary.
