One of the most enchanting areas of the world

In Selinunte you hear about the stones. They speak with their silence of thousands of years. In Sicily and in the world the Greek ruins are famous and amazing in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, Selinunte. But, the province of Trapani, I was moved more, because they are in the countryside, without barriers or fences, surrounded by golden wheat fields and the ocean. From the Archaeological Park entrance you have to walk in the paths of earth. 1st you get lost in pastures, then you discover the Mediterranean full of blue and white foam that lifts the Tramontana. There are no homes or structures that pollute the horizon, there are remains of temples, columns severed by time. Some are still standing, others fall between coffins, tombstones and piles of broken capitals. The great Greek city, constructed in the 7th century, and now inhabited only by seagulls, pigeons and small lizards, has an equally hard spell. It is 1 of the most enchanting corners of the world.

Selinunte is an amazing archaeological park. It's like the Pompeii of Sicily (although it's in worse condition and more impaired). It's an ancient Greek city, in fact the largest Greek archaeological site in the Mediterranean. Its name seems to be derived from the Greek word Selinon, i.e. "wild parsley," which was found in abundance here by its first inhabitants. The current archaeological complex is divided into four zones: The Eastern Temples, The Acropolis, The Ancient City, and The Malophoros Sanctuary. I have to clarify that the temples' normative letters speak to its inability to accurately classify the honoring divinity. The nearby quarry of Cavas de Cusa allows us to analyze the process of extracting the stone to the temples. North of the temple area there used to be a residential area that was organized in districts under an orthogonal urban plan according to which were rationally distributed residential and cultural spaces, and you can see the structure of the houses, some stairs and patios. They could take much more care of a beautiful gem like this than they do.

The archaeological park

It is located in the province of Trapani and is accessible by motorway Palermo / Mazzara del Vallo, through the release of Castelvetrano. The name "Selinunte" comes from the name of the river that flows near the ancient city: the "Selinon," which in turn comes from the greek and means "wild parsley", which still grows wild there. The temple dates back to the sixth century BC and is one of the oldest existing examples of Doric temple architecture. The Archaeological Park established in 1993 stresses the uniqueness of Selinunte that, in fact, brings together a large amount of its ruins with their large size and their value, hard to find in other places. Walking inside, you get lost in mounds of stones remains of major works, giant silent witness to an era that was ......
