Interesting feat of medieval...

Excellent

Interesting feat of medieval engineering. Pope Clement VII escaped from the sack of Rome and hid in Orvieto in 1527. The fear of a siege with no access to water lead him to pay for the digging of the well. The twin spirals allow mules to fetch water without ever needing space to pass. 54m deep.

Very interesting

The Pozzo di San Patrizio Museum is in Terni, Umbria, Italy. The museum is a historic building built by Antonio da Sangallo between 1527 and 1537 at the request of Pope Clement VII. This museum houses a well which allows access to water over 60 meters below the town of Orvieto. This is important because the location of the building was great for defense, but it lacked direct access to water. This museum is very interesting and has a lot of history.
