The Monastery of San Pedro el Viejo

Monastery of San Pedro el Viejo

Excellent

The Monastery of San Pedro el Viejo is situated in the historic centre of the beautiful city of Huesca. I found it by accident when I came from visiting the cathedral.

It’s a beautiful building, in the Romanesque style, which was declared a National Monument in 1886. Because we didn’t come in summer (it was the beginning of June), we couldn’t visit the interior, because at this time of the year it only opens in the morning and we went there about 5 in the afternoon.

Important in Aragonese Romanesque

Divided into two parts, church and cloister, this monastery is full of details which make it worth a visit: 38 capitals full of sculptures and indications that showed it was part of the Camino de Santiago.

It was declared a National Monument in 1885 and it’s one of the most important Romanic Aragonese monuments.
