Soldiers' and Sailors' Monument

It was our first visit to Indianapolis, and we didn't expect much from the city. After all, it's the capital of a predominantly rural state and isn't famous for having much to do! Apart from the famous race and the NBA team, we knew little about the city. Luckily, we found some interesting monuments like Monument Circle, a woody and pedestrianized area in the center. The circle is the starting point for many carriages that make tours around the city. At the center is a monument to the people of Indiana, colloquially known as Hoosiers, who fought in the First World War. It's a large monument, which is a little surprising as Indiana's contribution to the war effort was rather limited.
