Talbot Castle

The castle can be found next to the yellow bell tower, across the river of Trim. Part of the abbey became in 1415, the stately home of Sir John Talbot, who was at that time the Viceroy of Ireland, and so came to be known as Castle Talbot. He was taken prisoner, released and continued to fight against the French until 1453. He was known as "the scourge of France" or "the whip of the French", and Shakespeare wrote about him.
