The Texas Parks & Wildlife Department (Austin) was acquired in 1954 by a department of the army and was opened in May 1965. The park is located along the eastern shore of West Lake Whitney of Hillsboro, County of Hidalgo, near the ruins of Towas. Possible activities include camping, mountain biking, hiking, picnicking, boating, fishing, swimming, diving, water skiing and excellent bird watching.
