The Cathedral

This Cathedral has been a center of religious activity from the eighth century, when St. Loman became the first bishop of the Court. The tower of the 15th century church is connected to a 19th century church which was rebuilt in 1802 and then renovated in 1869 by Thomas Deane. There are remains of a 15th century choir in the adjoining cemetery in addition to many tombstones from several centuries ago up until today. The Bishops have been enthroned here since 1536 but it was elevated to Cathedral status in 1955. The Clock Tower commemorates the Historian of the Court, Dean Butler. Edward Burne Jones
