The Colonnades

The Basilica consists of two buildings and was designed by the architect Antonio Lino They are comprised of 200 columns and 14 altars where you can observe the 14 Stations of the Cross made in polychrome ceramics by the same architect. On the colonnades are images of the four Portuguese saints: S. Juan de Dios, S. John de Brito, S. Antonio and Blessed Nuno de Santa Maria, the founders of religious orders and other devotees of the Virgin apostles, whose realization was Portuguese sculptors. The smaller images represent other saints, too numerous to list.
