20 reviews of Monumental Lighthouse

Beautiful monument

Located at the end of the main street of La Serena, the avenue Francisco de Aguirre, is the most representative monument of the city. It was built by the Chilean Navy between 1948 and 1952, and was finished in 1953. At first it was used for naval purposes but in 1985, it was given to the city as a tourist resource. People tend to congregate here to watch the sun as it disappears over the horizon.

Essential visit

The sunset at the Lighthouse of La Serena is almost essential for any visitor to the city. It's a historic place by the sea that guides sailors and is a tourist icon in the area. This would be an unforgettable moment in this giant next to the sea for any person who goes to visit the region.
