Panoramic views of London

In 1666, a fire began at a baker's house on Pudding Lane. Three days later, the fire was finally put out but only after having destroyed a large part of the City. It consumed thousands of homes, public buildings, the city gates...even St. Paul's Cathedral. As part of the reconstruction of the city, a monument was built to commemorate the Great Fire of London and to celebrate the rebuilding. The monument stands 61 meters high and visitors can climb the 311 steps to reach the top where they have a 360° panoramic view of London. The monument dates back to the 17th century so there sin't an elevator.

Tribute to Fire

Excellent

The Monument was made for people to remember the fire of London in 1666, built between 1671 and 1677 it's a huge 61 meter stone column topped with a fire-shaped urn. A curious fact is that 61 meters away the fire started at Thomas Farynor's bakery. To get up the monument you have to climb 311 stairs to see the view, where you can see the Tower Bridge. Going down you receive a diploma, deserved as they are 311 steps in a very narrow spiral staircase. it's another beautiful view of the city although quite hard.
