A true gem

Located in the "fregusia de São Nicolau" next to the banks of the Douro River, it's part of the historic district of Porto and considered a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. The "Cais da Ribeira" is one of the oldest squares in the city and stands out due to the brightly-colored hold homes clustered around the banks of the river. A true gem of traditional Portuguese architecture.

Nowadays, the area is a bit touristy, with lots of bars, restaurants, and hotels. Highlights are the "Praça da Ribeira", "Rua da Fonte Taurina", and the "Bacalhoeiros y la Casa do Infante" where Prince D. Henrique was born in 1394.

Very good walk

Excellent

The dock of the banks of the River Douro, Porto is one of the most touristy places, with the famous Bridge of Luis I that was designed by the engineer Teofilo Seyrig. On the right bank is the old town that's been declared a heritage site, with the cathedral, the episcopal palace and the tower of the clergy, on the other side are the famous wine cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia and typical Porto boats carrying barrels. In this area there are plenty of restaurants and it's a lively shopping area in summer since is has the best view of the city.

Toda esa zona es super hermosa.

Excellent

A World Heritage Site

Great

Next to the Douro River, Porto has a wonderful riverwalk full of terraces with the houses huddled together painted in their characteristic colors and the clothes hanging out to dry. The style is totally Portuguese, with that falling apart but still beautiful look some places have. The paint peeling off on narrow, winding streets with seagulls flying overhead gives the Ribeira a special character. Since 1996, all of historic Porto is considered a World Heritage Site, and although there are some parts that are pretty grimey, the Ribeira remains within the acceptable bounds of cleanliness. An evening
