Trans-Mongolian Railway

We took the train from Beijing to Ulaanbaatar, where we stopped for a week to take a tour through the steppes of Mongolia with visits to the Kharkhorin monastery, Orkhon River valley, and Lake Ogii. We also booked takhi horses in the Khustain National Park. We went back to Ulaanbaatar, visited the Gandan Buddhist monastery and attended a performance of traditional music, and took a train back to Irkutsk, where we stayed in Listvyanka, by Lake Baikal. From Irkutsk we continued our journey by train to Moscow, stopping on a rainy afternoon in Yekaterinburg to stretch our legs and have some dinner
