A real treasure
Following the scenic road from Queenstown to Glenorchy, it then reaches Kinloch (some sections are unpaved). You can stay overnight at Kinlock Lodge - not one of the cheapest hostels in New Zealand, but it's worth it for the location. 12 km of dirt road (you can rent a mountain bike) will take you to the beginning of the beautiful trekking circuit around Lake Rere. Remote landscapes, gravel, bridges, and more are waiting for you here - Lake Rere is a real treasure, hidden by vegetation. Be sure to check the weather forecast before you go!
