Uros Villages of Titicaca

We made a tour with my mother on the Peruvian side of Lake Titicaca. Titicaca lies at an altitude of 3800 meters and its natural beauty is undeniable. It is split into two, one part belongs to Bolivia and has some islands, the rest belongs to Peru, and has more islands. Some are not really islands but huge piles of straw. The Uros people live there. During the tour, arranged by a travel agency from Puno, we visited one of the Uros towns. The Uros are an ethnic group that lives on the lake, making a living by cutting a thin bamboo species, which is found at the floor of the floating straw islands and which prevent it from sinking.

A great experience

One must-do adventure in Puno is to take boats over Lake Titicaca to the Uros Islands. These are picturesque floating islands whose inhabitants received us and showed us how they built the islands. I guessed the depth to the bottom and they gave me a pendant! Then we took a boat also made of reeds, to another island, where they even stamped our passports. There were souvenirs to buy and then we left for the island of Taquille. It was a short, but pleasant visit to the floating islands. The inhabitants were very friendly and willing to answer questions and allowed us to take pictures.
