Spectacular views

Right after passing the Enchanted City, in the direction of Cuenca, the traveler encounters what at first sight seems to be a mere road viewpoint in the middle of a sinuous path. But don't let appearances deceive you: The Ventano del Diablo (Devil´s Window), whose name alone makes the stop worthwhile, offers spectacular views, including a cliff and the descent of a river that will mark you for its beauty. By the way, same as in all the other places of the area, it is completely free of charge. It is a quick stop on the road, on the curb, but it is so busy that some peddlers come to sell souvenirs of the area.

A window to the world

In the Ventano del Diablo you will be able to enjoy spectacular views. It is a natural cave that gives the opportunity to see the gorges of the Jucar River in all its splendor. According to the legend, the Devil used to organize witchcraft exercises in this place and would throw every person that would approach to look through the windows. Depending on the season one visits, the colors of the landscape, in combination with the water of the river, can result in spectacular and breathtaking views.

A natural eye

It is a "natural eye" between limy walls, now properly set up with a man-made cement structure. From there it is possible to lean and admire the impressive fall that travels until it reaches de Jucar River, sculpting the beautiful gorges on its way.

Evil things

Legend has it that one day the Devil was bored and started to think about ways to get men to die and go to Hell stop. And it occurred to him to use one of the weaknesses of mankind to achieve. Knowing that curiosity is innate in humans, came hewn in the rock a gazebo with two large balconies to fall over a cliff and contemplate that allow great views and very attractive. Modeled Canyon Júcar it out to a cliff over 200 meters high and painted with beautiful colors in the stone and water. Everyone who walked by was attracted by curiosity and peeked at the balconies to enjoy the views. At that time the Devil was pushing at the time and falling to the bottom of the cliff took their souls and took them to Purgatory. That's the legend, although part of the reason is. While Ventano is the result of a wonderful geological action ductile rock excavated to create the incredible natural balcony which is the Devil's window, the view from her seem out of hand, if not the Devil, a painter who had put every effort to give impossible to water and rock Júcar colors. The best time to enjoy the color show is undoubtedly the evening when getting weaker sunlight get those tones that remain hidden during the day our eyes and can perfectly complement our visit to the Enchanted City of Cuenca.

Descend to the river jucar

A grupete friends, we set out to make a descent with little complications, very easy, the odd break of no more than four meters. Great fun and recommended to have a fun time in the company of cronies. A must go with wetsuit, the water is cold, so avoid rubbing with stones, and good footwear for water. What the descent to the river, is more or less easy, but the climb, after the suspicion to swim, get a little tricky.
