    Abba Palacio de Soñanes Hotel
    Hotels in
    Villacarriedo
This is an amazing place with Rococo façade, Renaissance interior, and spacious rooms that are all very different. Both the rooms and the dining rooms are traditionally decorated and entering seems as if you are in another era. We purchased the room through a travel agency and buffet breakfast was included. You won’t go hungry, I can assure you. They have a website with deals, but I’d recommend looking at either the agencies or their own personal website. Dinner and lunch are also available in the hotel itself, but we chose to eat out since the hotel restaurant was only a la carte, expensive, and served extremely small portions. We ate both nights in the town next door (Celaya) at a restaurant called El Español; there the plates are large and there’s a daily menu. I recommend the “cocido montañés” (mountain stew) and the local dishes. You can also visit Santander, Santillana del Mar, the entire coastal area, Cabárceno, and Barcena Mayor (the oldest town in Spain). There is so much to see. Ah! I forgot...try the quesadas and sobaos (typical Pas Valley desserts). They make them in Celaya and they’re delicious.

Gran Hotel Balneario De Puente Viesgo
    Hotels in
    Puente Viesgo
Whether you're single or a couple, Hotel Spa Balneario Puente Viesgo is a great place to relax. They have everything you could want from a spa: sauna, jacuzzi, thermal baths, contrast showers, and something that I really love: a flotation pool. You can book the spa for you alone or for you and your partner for 45 minutes and relax suspended in the water without anyone bothering you. After a little shower, you can go down to the restaurant and have a luxurious meal with great wine. And all this comes wrapped in a sleek, clean design with wood finishes.

    Hotel Chiqui
    Hotels in
    Santander
At one end of Sardinero beach is Hotel Chiqui. It has stunning views over the coast and an affordable price, this hotel is a wonderful option if you want to visit Santander. All rooms have views of the beach and many of them have terraces where you can enjoy the Cantabrian Sea. Buffet breakfast, very complete and varied. The only fault we could put the cafeteria and restaurant, despite having great views, is that it´s quite expensive and the quality is not always great.

Resort Reserva del Saja & Spa
    Hotels in
    Renedo
Rural retreat in the heart of Cantabria. It’s a beautiful country hotel in the center of Cantabria, an area that is not as touristy as the coastal towns, but that has much to offer. The hotel has everything you would expect from a rural retreat: comfort, charm and personal service, plus some first-class facilities (spa, top-tier restaurant, nursery for the kids, etc.). It's a really interesting option for anyone looking to escape the big city and is well connected to the Cantabrian coast and the center of the country.

    Castilla Termal Balneario Solares
    Hotels in
    Solares
The Hotel Balneario de Solares is located in an area of green parks in Solares and was reopened to the public in 2006 . The hotel has spacious rooms and classic decor. The bathrooms are quite luxurious although they could have put in a bigger tub. The amenities are normal for a four-star hotel: mini-bar, hairdryer, and all the usual toiletries. I couldn't watch TV, though, because I couldn't figure out how to work the DTT receiver. The spa is a large pool with different types of jets. For my taste, the pressure was a bit too high, but I guess the strong water is best if you're really stressed out. There was a robe and slippers to enter the spa in the room when we arrived. The best part of the hotel is certainly the setting: a large green area full of parks and trees that's peaceful and quiet. The spa-hotel is ideal for one or two days to disconnect from the world with a good book to read on one of the terraces. If you bring a laptop, remember that the wi-fi isn't great in many rooms. Overall, it's a good hotel to rest in classic style and comfort.

    Villafufre
It’s in an excellent location to get to know Cantabria. The house blends classic good taste with modern decor. The rooms and bathrooms are very well-kept and spotless. It was more like being in a 5-star hotel than a country house. As aside note, they also serve exceptional breakfasts and dinners. They don't serve lunch but we weren't in the house ever at lunch time anyways. And the icing on the cake was our wonderful host, Ana, a delightful woman from Castilla La Mancha who treated us like family.

    Escalante
This hotel is in a prime location, halfway between Santander and Bilbao, next to the Natural Reserve of Santoña. It’s in an old 17th century manor whose stables were transformed into the current restaurant. It’s a haven of peace if you are stressed and is a place to relax, read, swim in its great pool, and walk around the area. It has beautifully manicured gardens.

    Gran Hotel Sardinero
    Hotels in
    Santander
I found the Gran Hotel Sardinero by chance when I went to cross Constitucion Bridge. My car broke down, so I had to find a room on the fly and it ended up being very reasonably priced (60 euros for a double, without breakfast). The hotel is a stately mansion dating back to 1890 built right on the city's most famous beach across from the Sardinero and the Grand Casino. Although it has been renovated several times, the inside still retains a decadent, historic air. It has carpeting, large lamps, velvet armchairs in the lobby, big bronze statues flanking the stairs, and a gleaming marble floor in the entrance hall. The rooms, though, have rather outdated furniture. Our room had two beds connected by a wooden headboard. Opposite was a small desk and a table on which the TV sat. The bathroom could use a face-lift. There was no air conditioning or minibar, and you could smoke in any area of the hotel. However, the stay was nice and it was very clean. The reception staff were lovely, and even lent us an umbrella one day.

    Silken Río Santander hotel
    Hotels in
    Santander
The Silken Río Santander is located at 153 Avenida Reina Victoria. It's a fairly quiet hotel not too far from the Palacio de la Magdalena, but still a bit far from the city center. You have to catch a bus if you want to go to the Cathedral, for example. The hotel has free wifi throughout and you can get the password at reception when you check in. My double room was clean and spacious.

    NH Ciudad de Santander hotel
    Hotels in
    Santander
Taking advantage of our stay in Ireland we decided to take a trip to one of the most beautiful cities of Spain, Santander, that we had forgotten for many years since I visited. For this we chose the NH Ciudad de Santander, small, cozy hotel. Although central, it does not suffer from the usual noise. Rooms are very comfortable, breakfast adequate, private parking. It all makes you forget the car and stroll through the city.

    City House Alisas
    Hotels in
    Santander
Despite having just a two star rating, I really enjoyed this hotel a lot. It is located in the heart of Santander, next to the train and bus stations, so it's perfect if you're travelling. It has 79 rooms, a computer room and reading room, restaurant and coffee. Although we did not ask, we were given a huge room, with the bathroom being particularly big. We had two 105cm beds, a desk, luggage racks, and tv (satellite and flat panel) on the wall. The decor is simple but very modern and contemporary, and perfectly clean. In addition, there is wireless internet access throughout the hotel, we just had to ask for the key at reception. The bathroom was fully adapted for wheelchairs: sliding door, a large shower, sink rocker, lever handles for support everywhere ... There were a complete set of amenities, hairdryer and magnifying mirror. A highly recommended hotel: comfortable, cheap and in the heart of the city.

    Casa Cayo
    Hotels in
    Potes
We arrived in Potes and went straight to the hotel. The reception upon arrival impressed us all. Then we went to the rooms. We were given two different rooms to choose from, for the same price and stayed in the "Palomar", a stunning room in the highest floor of the hotel. Kindness, silence, and peacefulness are the hallmarks of this hotel located in the center of Potes. I slept like I was in my own home. Regarding the restaurant, the food and local wines were very good, and the desserts ...oh! Beyond words. In short, if you're visiting Potes, this is one of the best options in town, without having to use the car or move at all. Recommended 100%.

    Abba Santander hotel
    Hotels in
    Santander
This 3-star hotel well deserved fourth star. Great value for money. It is conveniently located near the drinking area and 50 metres from the bus and railway station. Great customer service, help was always at hand. The room was huge. There were three of us and we asked for an extra bed which was jsut as big as a normal bed. As there was no space in the hotel parking, we had our card stamped for the private parking next door and were offered a large discount. In future visits to Santander, I know exactly where I'm staying. The Atapuerca bath collection was the icing on the cake. All utilities were related to prehistoric man.

    Hotel Bahía
    Hotels in
    Santander
Hotel Bahia, located between the Cathedral and the bay, is the perfect hotel whether you're travelling for business or pleasure as you're close to everything. The four stars are noticeable in the rooms, which are very large, bright and fully equipped (minibar, large TV, toiletries, hairdryer, table and side table, etc ...). The bathrooms are also large and comfortable. The best part of the rooms are the views, at least for me. Every morning I enjoyed a beautiful sunrise over the bay when I woke up. The only downside is the avenue in front of the hotel, as the traffic can be noisy. The hotel is has good soundproofing, but if you have sensitive ears you'll still hear the cars. The breakfast buffet is really complete, with local produce, pastries, fresh fruit, a variety of omelettes, bacon, and a wide variety of teas and coffees provided by a Nespresso machine. I wasn't paying for the stay when I visited, but if it's within my budget, I'll definitely return next time I'm in Santander!

This is such a cozy and unforgettable place! It´s about as authentic as they come. The best parts are the decoration, cleanliness, location in a large park in front of the Cabarceno, and great hospitality of its owners who always made us feel at home. Smallish rooms but the rest of the resort makes the stay worth the price. Recommended for lovers of nature and animals.

    Refugio de Aliva hotel
    Hotels in
    Camaleño
As the name suggests, the Refugio de Aliva is really a refuge in many respects. From my point of view, it's a haven away from asphalt and busy society, tucked away in a secluded corner of the world where you can disconnect, unwind, and be with yourself. Our last experience there was somewhat unplanned. We spent one night and ate at the restaurant. Given how remote it is, it seemed surprising how many things like restaurants or bars there were out there in the middle of nowhere. One night was enough to discover the tremendous sensation of silence and disconnection. You could walk to the window and really see the stars. This is something so simple, yet so important for me. As far as the rooms go, they're quite spacious and have the generally austere design typical of mountain huts. Although, compared to others we have been to, this is a luxury retreat! It's just a remote and beautiful corner of the world where you can escape when you feel like you're drowning under the weight of the world.
