Toledo is now a municipality and city of Spain, capital of the province, in the autonomous community of Castilla-La Mancha. It was once the capital of Spain and is known as "The Imperial City" for being the headquarters of the court of Charles I and as "the city of three cultures". For centuries, it was inhabited by Christians, Jews and Muslims. The city is located on the right bank of the Tagus River, on a hill a hundred feet above the water.
