This is one of the loveliest spots in Conguillo National Park, The water is incredibly clear, and comes from behind the lagoon. Unaware that this was there we found this lagoon next to the main road and there is a viewpoint on one side which can be seen in its entirety. This girl and her appeal lies in the emerald water, so clear that it's like looking through a prism. Here the transition between vegetation and volcanic debris is abrupt. It's impressive to see the contrast between the gray lava and beyond the hills with lush vegetation .. All due to Laima's volcanic eruptions.
The lagoon is in Conguillo National Park, which is 148 kilometers northeast of Temuco, Araucanía. Access to it is via 2 pathways: Victoria-Caracautin-Conguillío (if coming from the north on Highway 5 South), or Temuco-Cunco-Melipeuco (if coming from the south) . This park has a big flora and fauna native to the area, apart from the lakes and ponds that has a volcano Llaima travez gives rise to its aerupciones to algfunos the most magical landscapes that I could visit
The Laguna Caracoles, is the starting point to climb Tolhuaca volcano. At the foot of the volcano, this lagoon is between the ancient araucaria forest. The lake is in a secluded corner of civilization, and is a natural paradise for those seeking a quiet moment in a beautiful place. It is steps away from an impending volcano in the Andes mountain range. It is also an excellent location for fishing. We are asked to keep this natural paradise intact, to preserve this little corner of nature. Currently the area is under the control and protection of a Swiss conglomerate seeking to regulate and protect the area from exploitation.
To share with your family or alone, during the summer the temperatures fluctuates between 25-30 degrees C , there is a fantastic place, a lake of great dimensions where you can find places like: The Andes mountains, virgin forests, lagoons, and mainly thousand-years-old Araucaria tree (this tree produces a fruit that is eaten in times of scarcity of food for native peoples, the mapuches). You can find on this route several points of interest within around 40 kms, such as other lakes lile The Villarrica, lican ray Coñaripe pucón etc. Also there is the Villarrica Volcano, the Llaima, the Lanin across Argentina and the Osorno volcano in Chile.
Entering Captren Laguna Conguillio National Park, by the Lake Captrén area (the road which comesfrom Curacautín), we come across this gap, and there we find few tourists visiting it, a lagoon formed by constant volcanic eruptions, you can see in the bordering forest beech, ñirre, hazel, maitén, mountain cypress and lleuques, plus the inevitable Araucaria Araucana, also many tree trunks submerged in the lagoon as the reminders of past violent eruptions. There is a path that surrounds the lake which has a length of about two kilometers. Is an easy walk, suitable for all types of people. In the lake itself you can fish, but swimming or boating is forbidden, as it is a bird sanctuary and this type of disturbance may be harmful to the species that inhabit it.
