The alabaster mosque

The Alabaster Mosque is the most beautiful mosque in Cairo, even though it isn't the biggest. The city is known as the "thousand minarets" referring to the large number of mosques that you can find. It is famous for several reasons: You are on top of the Citadel of Saladin, it was built by a Christian and it is a replica of the Hagia Sophia Mosque in Istanbul. It is a place that attracts a lot of tourists, and inside you will find dozens of tour groups.

Mohamed ali mosque nineteenth century...

Mohamed Ali Mosque nineteenth century, is the one in the center of Cairo Citadel The Qalaa, and dominates the skyline. You can see it very well from Al Azhar Park or if you can get on the roof of a house or mosque also. Ordered the construction Muhammad Ali Pasha, and ended in 1848. It is an Ottoman-style mosque, the largest of the day, who has twin minarets. Mohamed Ali was built to remember his son, who died a few years earlier. Along with the citadel, is one of the main attractions of Old Cairo. The mosque has a nice interior, with an impressive central dome, a dome of 21 meters in diameter and 52 meters high. The minarets rising to 82 meters. It seemed so fine decorations level as the oldest mosques of the Mamluks. There is a clock tower that is a gift of King Louis Philippe of France, and dates from 1845. Instead, the Egyptians gave the obelisk of Luxor, which is now at the end of the Champs Elysées in Paris.

Sumptuous, strict dress rules

Inside the Citadel of Saladin is this mosque which is a sober construction with beautiful slender minarets and domes. This imposing building dates from 1830 and was built by order of Mohammed Ali Pasha, finishing the work 18 years later. This is a giant dome is supported by four columns and two Ottoman-style minarets Inside highlight contrasting alabaster ripples that cover all the ground is fully carpeted red predominating, and high domes are richly decorated and remember inside the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. You can visit the tomb of Muhammad Ali that has an exquisite decorated like the pulpit and the rostrum. It can be a nuisance and consider being a woman at the door who can not sufficiently covered. I always carry a large scarf to cover my hair, and I wore short sleeves (no straps), I did not spend the appropriate check, so I left disguise, not without great burden on my part, by the woman at the door. I put my handkerchief overskirt post as fully covering my knees and a slicker borrowed to cover my whole arms dressed that way if they let me.

Suntuosa, reglas estrictas vestimenta

The great mosque of mohammed ali

It is around the citadel that Saladin the Great Mosque of Mohammed Ali was built. Built between 1830 and 1848, it was largely inspired by the Blue Mosque and the Hagia Sophia Church in Istanbul. Minarets rise gracefully into the sky and the huge central dome impresses. In the courtyard is a fountain for ablutions, protected by a kiosk. At its center stands the large clock, a gift from King Louis Philippe of France in recognition of the obelisk in the Place de la Concorde in Paris. The interior is amazing! Huge mats cover the entire floor, the walls are marble, chandeliers illuminate the arches and columns on which they are based. Mohammed Ali, proud of his work, became buried in the tomb of marble that you will see on the right as you enter. ps: providing a blanket or shawl held for women.

Very big

His name is Ali Mohama Mosque, also known as the Alabaster Mosque. This made in the likeness of the Hagia Sophia in Istanbul. It has eight minarets and is built mostly of limestone and parts of Alabaster, of there its name. Notably, as in every mosque to enter can not even wear shoes or irreverently enter, according to them at the knee skirt and bare shoulders were, and before going to my friend's got a kind of gown that also moving on its own, had more crap than a chicken coop. I had to cover the shoulders with a scarf and wearing huge cover my cleavage. As experience is not bad, but I do not much care Islamists have once they enter our temples ....

This mosque took 18 years to cosntruida and used was Alabaster Carrara of Italy. The clock in the yard on a tower was a gift of Louis Philippe in 1846. It's a beautiful mosque and abroad there are fantastic views over Cairo. That is two pulpits is that first made one and then the mosque was expanded so they had to make a bigger one.

The Citadel of Saladin was built in the twelfth century to protect the city of Cairo attacks and invasions, it is the Muhammad Ali mosque impressive although known worldwide as alabaster mosque as it is entirely coated with this type of stone . It was built between 1830 and 1848, a must which also has one of the best vantage points to watch the chaotic city of Cairo.

Mohammed Ali Mosque is a symbol of Cairo, it made me think a bit like Istanbul. It was completed for the first time in the mid 19th and then some parts had to be redone, consolidated in the years that followed. A really big mosque, inspired by the Blue Mosque in Istanbul. High on a hill, the views are spectacular in Cairo, and if the day is clear you can see to the pyramids in the background. I had no such luck.

Yo no tuve esa suerte.

Incredible !!

An amazing experience that will never be erased from your mind! Egypt in general is very interesting and pretty. I recommend going to Lake Nasser because it is one of the most beautiful and Abu Simbel, in general is a country that surprises. Cairo, I agree it is a mess, but it's also there to see and feel part of the city is an unforgettable experience!

The construction of this mosque lasted 18 years and alabaster that was used came from Carrara, Italy. The watch is in his backyard on a tower was a gift from Luis Felipe in 1846. It is a beautiful mosque and has an incredible view over Cairo. The fact that two altars is due to that first came of one and later with the expansion of the mosque was necessary to make a larger one.
