Why isn't it better known?

Alarcón is one of those places one can't understand why it isn't better known. It is a village with a fantastic history, in most cases linked to the castle. It's bathed and protected by the Jucar River and it has one of those peculiar silhouettes that every photographer dreams of.

The castle is preserved in a spectacular way and one cannot help but think of battles and armors. Alarcón had a period of great splendor followed by one of the complete opposite. Luckily, the building of the National Parador of Tourism (state-owned hotel) helped a lot and, since then, Alarcón slowly got back the significance it deserves. The other highlights are the churches and, above all, the mural of Jesús Mateo, a spectacular piece of work.

Alarcón: a medieval village

Alarcón is a lovely village that seems to still be living in the Middle Ages. It is located in the higher part of a mountain, surrounded by a wall and dominated by a medieval castle, now turned into a hotel. The streets and stone houses are very charming. The village is small and you can walk it all in about 5 minutes. In the tourism office they offer guided visits around the village, the castle and various houses that, in the old days, belonged to noble people.

Get a taste of alarcón's history

In Alarcón (also known as the "Unconquerable") one can enjoy the rich historical and artistic heritage of a fabulous and eminently medieval village thanks to the guided visits of the Kultur association. The two-hours long tour takes you to visit the 3 or 4 churches that remain standing: the Santa Trinidad Church (its first floor dates back to the 13th century), the San Juan Bautista Church (today it is not religious anymore and it houses the Center of Contemporary Art "Pintura Mural de Alarcón" by Jesús Mateo), and the Santa María Church, a parish church built entirely in the 16th century. Inside, you can enjoy treasures like the wonderful altarpiece from the 16th century. Moreover, the tour takes you up to the castle of Alarcón, where you can see the fort and gorges. You can also take the path to the Fort of Alarcón through the gorges.

Alarcn villa stately

A town where we had a guided cultural tour of this medieval town and then a hiking trail around. It was a very important place in the Middle Ages, then fell out of favor by supporting The Beltraneja so that, on coming to power the Catholic Monarchs, the reviled and was in decline. It has a very beautiful castle and some churches. One very unique, a project of a painter who has made abstract allegorical murals walls.

It is a charming and romantic village

Alarcón is a charming and romantic village in the province of Cuenca. It is surrounded by a wall which made it impregnable to the enemy in the Middle Ages, since this is added which is situated on top of a mountain and surrounded by a river. It has only one entrance to the village and is chaired by the National Parador of Alarcon castle of the Marquis de Villena. I think it is a mandatory visit to say that one has enjoyed life.

A town to discover

This town is beautiful, so the views from the tower to the whole city, how the city from the entire plateau. You can imagine where the attack would come aa city ... The people are super careful, and it is lovely to walk through its streets and discover the churches. And the most amazing mural paintings of the church in the town square. Speechless .... walk in and it's overwhelming.

Wonderful

When we arrived all we can not believe what our eyes were seeing: aqul was dreamlike landscape. The castle, embraced by the mouth of Jcar, along with the blue sky and green meadows left us without breath. It is a very attractive place to walk around and fill the senses of purity, for us it was unexpected and very positive.

Maravilloso

A landscape to remember

Water, stone, vegetation, architecture and history. All together and in the same place. Although they have done with the first church built in the village ... I, personally, do not like.

A mí, personalmente, no me gusta.

When you first arrive alarcon will im...

When you first arrive Alarcon will impress the stamp of the walled town, which looks like a large stone vessel aground on a meander of the Júcar. The spectacular castle parador currently occupies one end of the village, crossed from end to end for two long streets. The old town retains its medieval atmosphere, some beautiful churches and spacious Plaza de Don Juan Manuel, chaired by the city, which occupies a palace of s. XVI.
XVI.
