10 reviews of Rano Kau Volcano

Both eerie and beautiful

Once a year, at the beginning of fall between August and October, the chiefs, warriors, and priests lead the entire island to the peak of Rano-Kao, the Oronogo ceremonial grounds, to celebrate Tangata-Manu (self-affirmation) and the god Make-Make (Easter Island's principal deity).

This, however, happened many years ago. Today, the island lives on tourism, agriculture, and fishing. Aside from the famous statues, the "moais," and the Anakena beach, Easter Island has a noble culture and some of the world's most well-preserved natural areas. This is the case of the Rano Kao volcano near Hanga Roa, the island's only settlement.

Rano Kau Volcano

As one of my favorite places on the island, I admired it for days at a time ..... Rano Kau is a sleeping volcano that is located in the extreme southwest of Easter Island, which forms one of the three large cones that are part of the surface of the island ... It is 324 meters high and according to geological estimates dating back to an eruptive process occurred about 2.5 million years. Amazing! I really recommend an entire day there.
