Warm and friendly locals

The village of San Andrés Xecul (pronounced shecul) is Totonicapán, 15 kilometers from Xela (short for the city of Quetzaltenango). The church is unique, painted yellow and other bright colors, and saints who seem painted by children. Arriving to Xela is easy, at least until the junction to the village from the main road "American" between Quetzaltenango and Huehuetenango, and then walk a few minutes in the direction of the village. The village is very small, and the locals are warm and friendly. Many tourists visit but they only go to see the church, take a picture and leave. If you stop for a while and talk to them, they will tell you many things about their life, beliefs, traditions and culture.
