Town square

A little Tuscan hideaway where time has stood still for centuries. From the breezy streets to its stone houses. Its tall towers, its people and its food make this place a perfect paradise to retire. It smells like artisan-ship, where they're savoring the good life, breathe the fresh air and it feels like heaven. It has everything you could possibly want.

Amazing weekend in tuscany

A very small village but with a ton of charm. It's perfect for a weekend escape and you're sure to enjoy its medieval feel. There are museums and churches and plenty of plazas to have a drink. Oh, and of course, Tuscan restaurants. Just an amazing place to relax and soak in the culture.

Hasn't changed in centuries

Truth is, San Gimignano is one of the most impressive places I've ever seen. It's one of those places where time seems to stand still. It's like your watch is out of wack because the village hasn't changed in centuries. As you walk through these streets so full of like, it makes you think.

Also, the Tuscan sunsets are one of life's little pleasures and shouldn't be missed. If you don't know where to go, don't hesitate to head to Tuscany and spend the afternoon in San Gimignano. It's also a great place to try some homemade pasta and sample Tuscany's finest offerings.

This is a picturesque town near the city of Florence in Italy, which allows visitors to imagine and recreate the lifestyle they were the people who lived there, between towers, stone walls and old facades of the time medieval, also was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO since 1990. It is very beautiful and is all rebuilt and ready to hit the thousands of tourists who visit. Very small (seven thousand) and well located in the hills of Tuscany. The name San Gimignano is due to a bishop, who named it for a favor received the saint of that name and, according to legend, was for defending the city from barbarian raids in ancient times. This town is famous for its many places, like La Cisterna Square is surrounded by medieval towers, and Piazza del Duomo to the side of the towers of Ardinghelli (famous local family). San Gimignano has the Museum of Medieval Torture and Criminology, displaying torture instruments and apparatus varied. In addition, its many little shops offering impressive souvenir pottery manufactured to be sold Gimignano, and has a colorful and very Tuscan design, The town is also famous for the white wine strain which grows here and is known as Vernaccia di San Gimignano. It's worth remembering that bring a beautiful place, a worthy representative of the Italian Tuscany.

San Gimignano became a free commune in 1199, freed from feudal ties with the city of Volterra. Thus began its historical development / urban. Over the centuries, fought with the city linitrofe divedendosi into two factions followers of Ardinghelli (Guelphs) and the Salvucci family (Ghibellines). The Violent plague that struck the city in the first half of 1300 and the population decline succesivo dictate a hard blow to the economy of San Gimignano merchant enough to get her to submit to the city of Florence in 1953. Submission to Florence was devastating to the town of San Gimignano in the following centuries suffered a deterioration and abandonment incredible. However, the beauty of the city and its artistic importance has remained intact over the years and in the modern era has cotribuito an economic and cultural exponential enough to be recognized as a World Heritage City

The city of beautiful towers is one o...

The city of beautiful towers is one of the best preserved medieval towns of Tuscany, is part of the UNESCO World Heritage. The silhouette of San Gimignano is framed by its high towers of the thirteenth century, preserved 14, whitish gray stone, of the original 76. Buildings are windowless, were used as a defense and to denote the wealth of their owners. Harmony towers over a landscape of hills has the charm of a medieval city surrounded by its old walls and crowding round around the main streets San Giovanni and San Matteo that cross longitudinally lined with shops that sell primarily wine and craft. Remarks: The Piazza della Cisterna Buildings, the thirteenth and fourteenth centuries with a central well dating from 1237, the Palazzo del Popolo built around the thirteenth century, with its tower of 54 meters high and dominates its facade the Coleggiata, XII century Romanesque church with works of Sienese and Florentine painters. I recommend a visit to San Gimignano because, though small, has many works of art, good shops and nice restaurants. Tuscany is a very curious people, interesting your ride for her in little tourist seasons.

Other excursions we took from assisi ...

Other excursions we took from Assisi San Gimignano was this. We had heard so much about this beautiful city we could not avoid the temptation despite the 250 kms. Roundtrip. Arrive about 11 am and the car was aarcar martyrdom despite the many existing car parks outside the city walls. Situated on a small hill, this city was once an Etruscan village cudad quecomenzó as the tenth century taking its name from the Bishop of Modena "San Gimignano". The city is characterized by its high towers, which amounted to over seventy at present there are only about fourteen. Notably, the Duomo or Collegiate or 54 meter tower which houses the Civic Museum. Either way the walk through its streets is delicious despite the large influx of tourism exixtente.

San gimignano

Located in the heart of the Tuscany region in the province of Siena, San Gimignano is a small village full of charm. World Heritage of Unesco, the village offers a nice trip in the countryside, for example during a weekend in Florence. The village was inhabited as early as the tenth century and has since the twelfth tower-houses, remarkable buildings. These were up to 75, but were unfortunately destroyed in the course of history, in particular because of clan wars. 13 of them remain, and allow visitors to soak up the architecture and atmosphere of the place very specific. A walk that returns to the Middle Ages for a day discovery.

San gimignano

San Gimignano was declared a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1990 for its history and unique characteristics. The city receives hundreds of tourists, attracted by its unique architecture and medieval aspect that remains intact daily. Walking through its streets we can immerse ourselves in a trip to the almost ancient past. The distinctive feature of San Gimignano are thirteen towers that in the period of splendor became 72. The tower was me symbol of power in the Middle Ages, and the most powerful families incumbent upon each other to build the most high tower as a sign of its importance and wealth. Nowadays Grossa tower is the most high. After delve a little more in the old center, we pass under the Arco dei Becci, and arrived at the city center, the Piazza della Cisterna, which gets its name because the well is in the center, where people throw coins and it is surrounded by restaurants and terraces. For those who enjoy ice cream, we advise you not stop visiting the famous Gelateria della Piazza, awarded numerous times for the quality of its ice cream. Do not let the opportunity to try and recognize that winning is just, uhhmmmm !!! that good they were.

Located in the Val d'Elsa, San Gimignano Acualmente preserves 14 of the 72 towers that had in the past, and that symbolized wealth and prosperity of families who inhabited it. It is definitely one of the most beautiful in Italy, and that make Tuscany an amazing place. Located in a setting of green pastures, world renowned vineyards and olive groves crowd, walk through the old town, completely flanked by walls and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is an experience in itself, and personally is one of the best memories I have of my various trips to Italy. Arriving by car enjoying the scenery, and see how far the different towers loom high on the mountain is unique and unforgettable. The highest of 54 meters, the tower known as Grossa, is the only one that can be raised and from which have one of the best views of Tuscany. Do not hesitate to include San Gimignano on your roadmap, lose yourself for a while through the streets and let your imagination ... Welcome to the Middle Ages.

The village san gimignano

San Gimignano is one of the most touristic villages of Tuscany. The particularity of the place lies in the many towers of villages, each one higher than the other. By cons, success requires the village is crowded with tourists and tourist shops. In summary, we could say that the main street includes all two meters the same shops with leather bag ... And of course, do not think you park for free either. To still enjoy the place, do not hesitate to turn away from the main street to go around in the streets, quieter and just as charming.
