Tagus River Cruise

The “Balcón del Tajo” riverboat offers cruises along the Tagus so you can truly experience the Tajo International Natural Park, Europe’s first bi-national park straddling the Spanish-Portuguese border.

There are two different itineraries on offer depending on the time of year, but both leave from Cedillo. Each route lasts about two hours. First, there’s a short talk about the park’s biodiversity, some safety guidelines, and info about the unique aspects of the park. Once the presentation is over, you can step out on deck and enjoy the beautiful landscapes and (if you’re lucky) see some of the vultures and black storks that call the park home.

My Tagus river cruise experience was really interesting. At first, they told us some info and data about the park, a bit about the nature in the area, and some bits of trivia like the navigational symbols on the captain’s screen. The next part was my favorite: you go out on deck, whip out the camera, and start enjoying the wonderful variety of birds and landscapes along the river. There’s no sound except that of the wind…you’re right out in the middle of nature. The boat has an electric motor so you don’t even hear that! If you’re a fan of nature or an avid bird-watcher, this is the route for you.
