The German Fountain

The German Fountain, an octagonal domed fountain in a neo-Byzantine style, was built by the German government in 1900 to mark the visit to Istanbul of German Emperor Wilhelm II in 1898. It is located at the northern entrance of the racecourse area in front of the Blue Mosque. It was donated to the Sultan by the Kaiser to thank him for his hospitality during his visit to Istanbul in 1895. The German Fountain is the symbol of a deep friendship began at that time. This monument is newer compared to others in the plaza. On the roof of the fountain you can see beautiful mosaics.
