Barrio del Ángel de la guarda

The Angel neighborhood is located north of the city, also known as the Barranquet, a name related to the terrain as it forms what is known as a ravine through the area. Its origin, back in the eighteenth century, was an area of ​​countryside known as the "Canya of Matxa tia", when caves were dug to create living spaces. The neighborhood has always been a poor neighborhood. From the high points of the area you can see much of the Vega Baja del Segura, the city of Elche and Santa Pola and on clear days you can see the sea and a beautiful view of the Sierra de Elche. Since 1902, the neighborhood has had a center point in the chapel of the Holy Guardian Angel, which has a great history.
