6 reviews of Belfast City Council

A must-see in Belfast

The Belfast City Hall is a neoclassical building built in the early 20th century, after Queen Victoria granted city status to Belfast. The highlight of the building is its large dome, similar to that of Saint Paul's in London. Inside, the most interesting part are the marble columns and staircase and the Greek stained-glass windows. There are also pictures of Lord Mayors in the halls. From Monday to Saturday, there are free guided tours in English which teach you a bit about the building, the history, and its operations. There is also a memorial to the World Wars and Titanic on the premises. There's a centennial exhibition about the Titanic's construction.

A must-see in Belfast.

one of the most remarkable buildings to be found in the capital of Northern Ireland

The city of Belfast is one of the most remarkable buildings to be found in the capital of Northern Ireland. It was built in the 19th century in an Edwardian style. As you approach, you will notice a huge green central dome, which is about 53 feet high, flanked by two smaller domes at the corners of the building (in the same green color). It is often visited, but inside there are reforms that have made this activity cease temporarily. Surrounding the town hall you can find gardens, which together form the Donegall Square.

Beautiful place.

Excellent

The heart of Ulster

In the heart of Belfast, capital of Northern Ireland, we found this fabulous building that wants to keep alive in the memory of the former glory of the British Empire. We just heading to Donegall Square, a huge rectangular square with beautiful gardens where the inhabitants of Belfast try to warm their bones in the sun, and from which radiate the main streets of the city to find the jewel of which I speak, the impressive City Hall. It is not old, as it stood in 1906 (although in Baroque style, I think to give the impression of older and to afford the license to do so in large), and the dome 53 meters that crowns it gives an elegance own a building that you"re looking to hit and give the idea of timeless power. Since his front we get the long-lived Queen Victoria, sitting on top of a pedestal showing all his majesty and power. To reinforce this idea of solemnity, a series of statues of famous people surrounding the building, as if it were an army of powerful and impassive soldiers of history. But perhaps the most attractive is inside so freely we cross the huge doors and look over our heads. The finest Italian marble covers every centimeter of floors, walls and ceilings. The staircase lit by stained glass windows that tell the history of the city are simply stunning and a unique elegance. We could not visit the wonderful Council Chamber nor the rest of the building because we were running very late and we could not wait for the next free tour (only way to visit the interior). For yes I have recommend performing one of 5 that are made in the morning and after lunch. Surely worth.
