Whistling marmots at the border

Just beyond the French-Italian border, crossing the Italian Alps by the pass of Montgenevre to arrive in the area Hautes-Alpes department of the French Riviera, at 1325 meters above sea level, stands the town of Briançon - or Briançon in Italian . Note to the slopes that surround it, and also known for its special atmosphere that distinguishes it, Briançon is also characterized by a typically "military" and "fortified", since everything revolves around the old town, the fort and the walls. The city is divided into two parts, Upper and Lower. The first corresponds to the historical center, recently become the site of the UNESCO World Heritage Site. Inside are the main tourist attractions of Briancon including the Porte de Pignerol - the ancient entrance to the city that will take you to the Grande Rue, a narrow staircase surrounded by a lovely old houses. The main street is the Great Gargoyle, that can be seen especially at Christmas time, when it shines feature lighting. The fortress of Briançon, Fort du Château, is the structure that characterizes the entire urban planning of the center. Of great cultural interest is the church Eglise de Notre Dame de St Nicolas: you admire with its imposing walls and its high bell towers, visible from across the valley. I invite you to visit the town especially during the Christmas season, when the snow covers the surrounding landscapes, the interior lights illuminate the streets and the air is made special by the scent of chestnuts. A unique note: Do not cry for those who seek, and cross the center will continue to whistle in your path. In fact, the insistent ringing derived from dozens of plush marmot on sale in the form of In the reception. In fact, the marmot, animal symbol of the city, is the only animal in the world - more than the man - who is able to whistle!

Walk around Briancon

From here you can make numerous tursticas, cyclists and bikers routes. It has always been a communications hub, which can be seen in the large walled historic town, which along with the strengths that surround it form a set of interest for visitors.

Medieval city of charm

Briançon is according to its inhabitants the highest city in Europe. It is surrounded by a wall, created by Vauban in the sixteenth century. Lovely in winter, on the snow-covered landscape and the smell of wood fires, and summer for comfortable temperature and surroundings to make good trekking. A do not miss the restaurant Au pied de la Gargouille.

Where Briancon Serre Chevalier was born skier Luc Alphand famous racing driver and is a beautiful place like winter but was pesonnellement my favorite season is fall in effect at that time the mountains are beautiful colors red, yellow, green forests through trees they are recouvertent, but winter however the advantage is the many possible occupations (skiing, patnoire full area, rides rakettes ...) event of the winter is the famous ice racing "the Andros Trophy" which congregate in particular Alain Prost, Olivier Panis, or Jacques Laffite, and guests such as Bixente Lizarazu last year
