1 review of Strome Castle

Free access

This ruined castle is located on the shores of Loch Carron in Stromemore in the west of the Scottish Highlands, and is about 3.5 miles southwest of the village of Lochcarron. It was built by the Earls of Ross Macdonald. In 1472, the castle was owned by the MacDonald Clan of Lochalsh and Alan Macdonald Dubh, 12th Chief of Clan Cameron. In 1939, the ruined castle was presented to the National Trust of Scotland in order to preserve the remnants--the square tower and the courtyard--that remained standing. The nicest thing is the view of the castle in its entirety on the shore of the loch. It's an ideal place to watch the sunset in this part of the Highlands.
