Cathedral of Puno

Built in the 17th century, this cathedral is a wonderful example of Baroque design. It's beautifully carved stone facade mixes Christian and indigenous motifs. The most characteristic part is the atrium that has a 10 step staircase which descends to the Plaza de Armas. In 1930, a fire destroyed the cathedral, and invaluable figures and carvings were lost.
