1 review of D-Day Museum

An educational experience

During our previous travels, we have visited the Normandy beaches where the D-Day landing took place, and now we find ourselves on the other side of the Channel, exploring the D-Day Museum in Portsmouth, UK. This is the only British museum dedicated entirely to this important World War II turning point. It was opened in June 1984, the 40th anniversary of D-Day, by the Queen Mother.

The museum's centerpiece is the magnificent Overlord tapestry of about 83 meters in length. It is the longest tapestry of its kind in the world, and was commissioned by Lord Dulverton of Batsford (1915-1992) as a tribute to the sacrifice and heroism of those men and women who took part in Operation Overlord.
