The best cocktail I’ve ever had
Del Diego is a cocktail bar that you must visit for all the mixed drinks they have. Many people, myself included, claim they serve the best drinks in all of Madrid. It’s located next to the Plaza Vazquez de Mella.
The first thing I noticed upon entering was the fantastic lime scent overflowing from the bar. Walk in and sit down, a giant cocktail menu is already there waiting for you. I’d order them all, but little by little. I had read great things about Gimlet so I decided to give it a try. We also ordered a piña colada. Both drinks were fantastic. Great decisions. They’ll bring you an appetizer to accompany you drink, depending on the type of cocktail you order. In our case, they brought potatoe chips and salted crackers.
Moving back to the Gimlet… If you’re imaging it as the typical cologne flavored drink, you’re headed in the wrong direction. You have to go to Del Diego and try it and find out for yourself that the flavor is more pleasant and original than you thought possible with an alcoholic beverage. I don’t know what type of gin they put in the Gimlet, but it was a wise move ordering it. It was so good I ordered three more! If you’re already thinking about the next morning’s headache, you’re way off again. There aren’t any headache at, or coming from, Del Diego's. The drinks are made with great care.
On my second visit, I focused on the gin and tonics. It’s absolutely impossible that any place has better materials to make their drinks, as well as the desire to keep their clients happy with good, quality gin and tonics. Ask for any brand you’d like (I tried Martin Millers and Mombasa) and the drink will be fantastic. I’m just telling you what I’ve already experienced two times.
The bar fills up each day once people get off work. We went on a Saturday and it was very pleasant. I hope to frequent this cocktail lounge often. Maybe we’ll see each other there one day.
