Lighthouse of Favàritx

40 reviews of Lighthouse of Favàritx

A gorgeous place day or night.

This is a gorgeous area that you shouldn’t miss if you visit Menorca. It’s located on the cape of Favàritx in the S'Albufera des Grau Natural Park.

The lighthouse was built in 1922 using local rock, and you can still see the quarry only a few meters away.
This wild and desolate cape is licked by the winds from the Tramontana and is one of the oldest parts of the island, geologically speaking.

At night, the moon reflecting off the rocks is gorgeous; it’s like being on the moon. To get there, take the highway that goes from Mahón to Fornells. After 8km, you’ll see an exit off to the right.

The natural park’s watchtower

Standing alone in the spectacular Cape Favartx, the lighthouse of Favartx seems like the lookout watching over the S’Albufera des Graus Natural Park, a protected area that also has several lagunas and costal areas where birds migrate.

The lighthouse was built in 1922 with stone from the area and is the symbol of this part of Menorca.

It’s pleasant landscape, but sometimes the North wind brings some storms to land. It’s desolate land that’s constantly beat up by waves from the sea, covered in slate, with a supernatural look to it which has brought about legends and history. The best time to visit the cape is at sunset. The reflection of the moon (even better if you’re lucky enough to be in Menorca during a full moon) shines off the slate and it’s just fantastic. It looks like it is silver.

Only a few meters from Presili Cove

Just a few meters before you arrive at the cape of Favàritx, you’ll find a wooden entryway that’ll lead you on a path to the crystalline waters of Presili Cove.

It’s a northeastern virgin beach that’s remarkable for its fine white sand and rocky outcroppings which provide a shallow pool of water where you can wade for meters and meters without the water even reaching your elbows!

I’d recommend going for a swim in the calm waters and bringing a picnic basket and bottled water to spend the whole day there just relaxing, although you can continue along the trail to Tortuga Cove and
