Jorge Amado Bahia is one of the most globally recognized authors. He was born in 1912, to a family who worked in the cocoa industry. In 1930, he moved to Rio de Janeiro to study law, but his real passion was always literature. Gabriela, Clove and Cinnamon (1958) is one of his most important works, explaining the struggle of the cocoa workers, but with a warm sense of humour. In Pelourinho, you can visit the Foundation (with free admission), which briefly explains his life (in an almost unfair brevity) and in the cafe you can see the covers of his books translated into more than sixty languages.
