The Catholic Church and its Stories

St. Peter's Church stands on one of the main streets in Drogheda, which is a quiet town situated to the north of Dublin. When we got there we were ready to go explore. We had a great evening in the area, and we kept going into this church that had a proud looking neo-Gothic facade. Inside we found a little surprise. The head of the martyr Oliver Plunkett lies there in a glass case, covered in gleaming brass, beside the altar! Plunkett was hanged and then beheaded, probably during the persecution of the Catholics in the 17th century. In 1975 he was canonized. Your vision is a little tricky, why say anything, so if you are "strong emotions", avoid that corner of the church, heh, heh.

The church, moreover, looks mosaics on the walls remind me of modernist art, and is generally a quiet and worth the spend :)

The holy head

Drogheda was around in my head since I see "the bird Espino" series, as was the name of an estate large where sheep are raised in the state of New South Wales (Australia) According to the story, their owners were Irish descent who emigrated in search of a better future. So I decided to investigate what had interesting in the city, and the truth is that vali worth stopping her on our way to Belfast, as well as being a beautiful place full of history proudly displays in his church of St Peter's head of St. Oliver Plunkett, Archbishop of Armagh and primate of Ireland. But l will discuss a little later. The temple stands imposingly in the middle of town, right on West Street, one of the most commercial and lively city. From 1791 to the early church was constructed, the people of Drogheda, wealthy merchants and entrepreneurs, have continued to enlarge and embellish it, soon consider itself a town with such a thriving economy. As several chapels and a beautiful vestry is aadieron. But it was little for the people of Drogheda, who wanted a temple so lavish enough to house the sacred relic. As at the end of the nineteenth century a spectacular tower and baptistery aadi, and arras virtually all the early edificacin, giving the temple an elegant French Gothic style, although several elements of its past glory were incorporated into the new project, as the pulpit, the rosetn and bells among which was "the Salamanca". The church finally refulga like a jewel on every church in Ireland. Elegant, slender, decorated with exquisite taste in fine colors bright and fresh, suffered in the 60s a "remodeling" that left her naked and cow, a direct access to the beauty of the building on behalf of the fashions of the decade attack. Fortunately in the 90s of the last century it could recover much of the previous decoration that folly and withering GOT that the temple again shine as we see today in da. But to end talk of martyr Oliver Plunkett, a man who dedicated himself all his life to the care of the most disadvantaged, ganndose hatred and contempt of the ruling classes, to see how neglected his religious duties in the church to help those in need. As who accused him of treason, he was taken to London and sentenced to death in a mock trial. Was hanged first, then drowned, dismembered and finally burned and only thanks to the courage of some friends his head could be saved before the fire consumed the body. As that apart from enjoying the exquisite beauty of this temple, we must approach the precious reliquary that holds the head of a good man, he tried and convicted so only by doing good.
