The Youssef Dey Mosque has been declared a Historical Monument and is located just a few steps from the great Zitouna Mosque. It is commonly called by the name of its builder, though it is officially called the Al B'chamqiya Mosque. It was built in the 16th century using the best craftsmen in the country. Like other mosques, it has a high minaret and an inner courtyard that offers access to the arch-filled prayer hall. Only Muslims may enter.
