1 review of Kendal

A popular tourist spot

Excellent

Kendal is the most important city in the Lake District (northwest England), one of the most beautiful parts of the country. We've visited a few times. To give you an idea, Kendal has about 29,000 inhabitants. With valleys, mountains and rivers nearby, it's one of the most visited English cities, and the majority of the tourists are British or Asian. The social life is very colorful, with festivals throughout the year.

Kendal appears in the eleventh century Domesday Book, under the name Cherchebie (from the Cumbrian dialect). However, the remains of a Roman fort have been found on the outskirts of the city, indicating that its foundation can actually be dated back to the fourth century.
