Lago Balaton y Tihany

Hungary is not only Budapest. Renting a car (you must used dipped headlights during the day), you can comfortably go all over this country. About 100 km from Budapest this lake is elongated and shallow. On the south shore lies the tourist area (the destination of locals and Germans in particular), the north shore is highly recommended as their villages haven't been "invaded". Ideally, you should rent a house by the day in the town as this is the best economic option and you can appreciate the local flavour. Tihany is a village on the north shore, with the highest per capita income in the country apparently.
