Maldonado Department

Maldonado is the name of one of the provinces of Uruguay and the capital of the department. It's on the coast, right on the mouth of the Plate River, which is famous for its beaches. In Uruguay it's easy to get around, especially if you moves along the coast: The Interbalnearia route takes you from Montevideo to Punta del Este. My recommendation is to tour the department and go by car stopping at each beach you like. There are many. Please note: Since this is an area near the mouth of a great river, the water color is different from other beaches, like the tides. Therefore you'll find both Whitewater and calm water beaches.
