Monreale

Monreale is a small Italian village in the province of Palermo. It has about 30,000 inhabitants and is 2 km south of Palermo. When you leave bustling and chaotic Palermo, you find this wonder. Quiet, half empty in the morning, Italian-flavoured town. Just get a cappuccino at the bar of the square, expensive but worth it, in view of the Norman cathedral which is the most famous. The cathedral is simple on the outside, but when you enter you find the famous Byzantine mosaics >2,200 kg of gold, exquisite cloister next to the cathedral, which is supported by 228 columns, profusely decorated, and finished in a very elaborate capitals, and the endless stairs leading to the roof, from where you can watch all Palermo.
