Novodevichy Convent

Il est évidemment très typique des monastères russes: remparts, clocher, grande cathédrale à bulbes... Ce lieu est extrêmement calme et possède un vraie âme. Par toutes saisons, il possède un charme sans limites: lors des premières neiges, vers mi-octobre, les feuillages jaunes recouvert de blanc méritent le détour. Ses couleurs vives resplendissant par beau temps, et ses bulbes scintillent. Une féerie en plein cœur de Moscou. C'est également un haut-lieu d'histoire, puisqu'il a servi de prison à une époque. Pour accéder à l'ensemble, descendez à la station Sportivnaya, sur la ligne rouge, et choisissez de sortir à l'arrière de la salle-pour ceux qui déchiffrent le cyrillique, pas de problèmes-, et partez sur la droite, vous ne tarderez pas à apercevoir le grand clocher. Si vous ne souhaitez pas pénétrer dans les bâtiments, pas besoin de passer à la caisse. En revanche, si vous le voulez, trois édifices sont ouverts au public (selon la période): le réfectoire, un bâtiment près des remparts, et bien sûr la cathédrale principale, Notre-Dame de Smolensk, le seul intérieur qui vaille les 100 roubles de droit d'entrée. Vous devrez payer 80 roubles pour prendre des photos à l'intérieur. Tout au long de l'année, des mariages se déroulent ici et dans le parc qui le jouxte...spectacle en perspective.

Pratiquement inchangé depuis le XVIIè siècle, le monastère est ceint de murailles avec douze tours de guet. Il joua un rôle dans la défense de Moscou. C'est un lieu chargé d'Histoire. Le bâtiment du couvent le plus ancien est la grande cathédrale Notre-Dame de Smolensk aux cinq clochers, sans doute construite par un architecte italien en 1524-25 et dédiée à l'icône sainte Notre-Dame de Smolensk. Le cimetière attenant est aussi digne d'une visite.

The Novodevichy Convent is the most famous monastery in Moscow. His name Novodevichy ("the new Madonna"), was chosen to differentiate the Convent of the Ascension (or Starodievitchi, "old Virgin") which is located in the Moscow Kremlin. This monastery is very old: it was founded in 1524.
