A tiny town
Founded in 1840 by German immigrants, today there are only 20 people living in this tiny town, all dedicated to farming. Its name comes from a corruption of Mr Othneil, the owner of the first oat mill here. Every year there is a party here sponsored by Three Minutes Brand Oats, in which all the activities start three minutes after they're supposed to!
Oatmeal briefly became a colony of black former slaves after the American Civil War, and you can see in the cemetery some graves from that period. Only a few buildings stand in the town today, which is only really visited during the festival.
